13LoveStories.org is excited to unveil a photography exhibition with RENWL (Restore Equality Now~West Adams/LA South Marriage Equality Team) at the Lucy Florence Cultural Center in Leimert Park, with a two-month run from October 1st through November 24th, 2009. The photographs displayed offer a window into the lives of 13 same-sex couples living in Southern California in the wake of Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry. The exhibition has two different incarnations, occupying the side display space in October, and taking over the main gallery in November.
Couples depicted in this exhibition by South African photographer Gideon Mendel come from a variety of different backgrounds and parts of the surrounding LA area, highlighting how marriage equality is truly an issue that affects every community. 13LoveStories.org is thrilled to be able to show the work in the heart of the community at such a legendary and respected venue as Lucy Florence.
Throughout the run, 13LoveStories.org exhibition hosts various events and organizations, seeking to encourage understanding and to engage the local community in a productive dialogue. To co-sponsor an event or evening at the exhibition, please contact email@example.com.
13LoveStories.org is a unique multimedia advocacy project that profiles the moving stories of thirteen couples whose lives were profoundly affected by Proposition 8 – the recent California ballot initiative that eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry.
