Elections and Erections
South African performance artist and satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys came to Los Angeles October 2-19 for a short-term residency at the Art | Global Health Center at UCLA in the Department of World Arts and Cultures. While here he performed his award-winning one man show Elections & Erections, an irreverent look at sex and politics, confronting universal fears with humor.


13LoveStories.com with RENWL at the Lucy Florence Cultural Center
13LoveStories.com is excited to unveil a photography exhibition with RENWL (Restore Equality Now~West Adams/LA South Marriage Equality Team) at the Lucy Florence Cultural Center in Leimert Park, from October 1st through November 24th. The exhibition offers a window into the lives of 13 same-sex couples living in Southern California in the wake of Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry.

Global Citizenship Initiative
On September 23, 2009, all incoming freshman and transfer students at UCLA will be engaged in book discussion groups centering around Tracy Kidder’s Mountains Beyond Mountains. The book, designated UCLA’s common book for 2009-2010, follows the work of Dr. Paul Farmer, who has dedicated his life to addressing HIV and Tuberculosis in Haiti and throughout the world.

The Arts and Public Health in India: Raising the Discourse View the Invite
On September 11th, 2009 in New Delhi, Dr. David Gere joins a stellar lineup to speak about the nexus between the Arts and Public Health. As expert communicators, artists have long been playing a vital role in health issues and this event seeks to explore meaningful ways to deepen and expand that presence.
