A couple portrays their internal thoughts (and external dialogue) regarding their first time having sex together. The woman also brings up the importance of making sure that both individuals in a heterosexual relationship experience pleasure.

For all videos:

For this video:

  • What is the role of pleasure in sex? What are we taught about pleasure and sex?
  • Why is pleasure not commonly talked about in sexual health education?
  • How does our communication about sex (or lack of communication) influence the way we think about sex?

Materials needed: Copies of Victoria Woodhull article, poster sheets, colored paper, markers, scissors, glue, art supplies, internet access

Step 1.

Give students a copy of the Victoria Woodhull article. Read together in class or have them read quietly. Get them to understand what she fought for in regards to women’s sexual liberation and the doctrine “Free Love” that she preached. Her beliefs and efforts led to the Sexual Freedom movement that is embodied in the U.S. Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Step 2.

Tell students to choose a partner to work with and pretend they are going to a Sexual Freedom march in DTLA. Together they must choose a Sexual Freedom topic that they care about and create a picket sign they will take to the march that represents their topic.

Step 3.

They must also prepare a short speech they will make to represent their topic in case a news reporter interviews them. Tell them that they will take turns coming up to the front of the room with their picket sign and will have to answer to the news reporter (played by teacher holding fake microphone). They must prepare to explain who they are, where they’re from, why they are at this Sexual Freedom march, what cause they support, and why their cause is so important to defend. Encourage them to use enthusiasm and passion when speaking to the news reporter so that their message is received in a convincing/positive light.
