Sexy Self-Love

Kelly explains her frustration about stigma when she discloses to a potential sexual partner that she’s living with HIV.

For all videos:

  • What did you see in the video?
  • What do you think this video was about?
  • What stood out to you the most in this video?

For this video:

  • How did stigma play a role in this video?
  • What will it take for people like Kelly to stop being affected by stigma?

Materials needed: paper, pen/pencil

Step 1.
Ask students to write a letter/song/speech to society explaining how stigmatizing individuals is wrong and how people like Kelly should be able to enjoy sex.

Step 2.
Make a video (pretend it will go “viral”) as you read and perform your piece. Ask students to take turns showing their video or performing it live for the class.

Step 3.
Once everyone has shared, engage the students in a dialogue:

  • Which video/performance stood out/did you like the most? Why?
  • Was this activity difficult to do? Why or why not?
  • Other than “viral” videos, what else can you/we do to reduce the stigma of HIV?
