Get ready to teach using tools provided in this section.

Talk to the class about empowerment. Ask them what they think it means. What are examples of being empowered? How can someone empower someone else? Why is empowerment important, especially when it comes to sexual health?

Talk to students about making decisions about having sex. Ask them to share what they should be asking themselves about having sex. How do they know if they’re ready? How should they be talking to their partner? What should they know about sex, protection, risks? How should they take care of themselves? Write their responses on the board for everyone to see.

Check out these websites for some tips on what teens should be thinking about before having sex:

For video #3, show them rally/protest clips from the internet of how people speak to news reporters when asked about their cause.

Ask students to share what they think good communication should look like when it comes to asking for what you want in a sexual relationship. What does it truly mean to be sexually empowered?
